4 Types of Wedding Planners and What They Do

1. Full-Service Wedding Planner

First, on our list of 4 Types of Wedding Planners and What They Do is the full-service wedding planner.  When it comes to planning your big day, this is the most comprehensive wedding planner that exists.  Full-service wedding planners take care of everything in the wedding planning process from assistance with establishing a budget, finding and selecting the venue and vendors, obtaining permits, and so forth.  Since this is a more in-depth wedding planning experience, full-service wedding planners can range in price from $5,000 to $25,000 and up depending on the planner’s market tier.  The full-service wedding planner is ideal for busy couples or destination weddings.

2. Month-of Wedding Planner or Coordinator

If you are a self-started and very organized, the month-of wedding planner or coordinator may be your best choice.  Many planners offer this service, which includes rehearsal dinner preparation, RSVP management, creating timelines, and finalizing vendor details, and more.  The cost for this type of service can be anywhere from $1,000 to $8,000.  We suggest this type of wedding planner for couples that want to ensure they have a stress-free wedding day but don’t require a full-service wedding planner.

3. Day-Of Wedding Coordinator

Day-of Wedding Coordinators are ideal for couples who need someone to execute their plans on their wedding day. With this type of planner, you can expect vendor and timeline management, troubleshooting any last minute issues, and overseeing setup and breakdown on your wedding day. This type of planner can range from $1,000 to $3,000, depending on the vendor’s involvement.  There may be additional fees to assist with rehearsal dinner preparation.

4. Destination Wedding Planner

Last on our list of 4 Types of Wedding Planners and What They Do is the destination wedding planner.  Destination wedding planners are generally full-service planners since they serve as your conduit on the ground, for couples planning a wedding in a different city, state, or country, and are priced accordingly. Their services may include handling legal/marriage requirements, managing travel itineraries, and recommending and booking local vendors. This type of planner is ideal for couples who wish to host their wedding abroad or in an unfamiliar location.
