1. Bride Parents Paying for The Wedding
First, on our list of 6 Wedding Etiquette Rules That Are Outdated , is the bride's parents paying for the wedding. Sure, in the past, the bride's parents would pay for the cost of their daughter's wedding. And this may still ring true in certain areas of the country. However, as we said this is a thing of the past. Couples are paying for their own weddings these day. Also, you may find that some couples may pay a portion of their wedding while their parents pay a portion of the wedding.
2. Wedding Party Being All Men or All Women
Today, you don't have to have your BFF stand on your hubby's side because of gender. We love that this wedding etiquette rule is outdated. The person you feel the closest to should be the one standing up for you on your wedding day. So, that means you don't have to follow the outdated rule of your wedding party being all men or all women for that matter. Your BFF can stand up at your wedding as a bridesman if that's what you choose.
3. Bride Father Doesn't Have to Walk Her Down The Aisle
Also, on our list of 6 Wedding Etiquette Rules That Are Outdated, is having the bride's father walk her down the aisle. Traditionally, brides would have their father walk them down the aisle. On the contrary, many modern brides are choosing an alternative. For instance, a bride whose father has passed away or isn't in her life may have her older brother, uncle, or grandfather walk her down the aisle.
4. Having a Formal Rehearsal Dinner
Since parents aren't paying for the costs of weddings anymore, having a big formal rehearsal dinner has become a thing of the past. Couples are choosing to have a more intimate setting when it comes to the rehearsal dinner. Couples are opting to have a more intimate dinner with their immediate family.
5. Receiving Lines
After the ceremony, couples along with their parents, would line up and greet the guests and thank them for attending. We call this the receiving line. These lines could be long, and guests would have to wait a long time before seeing the bride and groom. Nowadays, couples skip the receiving line and greet their guests at the reception by visiting them at their table.
6. Bridesmaid Wearing The Same Style Dress
Whoever came up with the idea of bridesmaids wearing different style bridesmaids dresses is a genius! We like this idea because the bride gets to let her bridal party choose gowns that fit their shape and personality. Not to mention your girls get to choose a dress that won't sit in the back of the closet but they can actually wear again.
